Construction of America World
City in the United States will
represent an extraordinary
achievement and a potent
symbol of the rebuilding of
U.S. industrial pre-eminence
based on sound commercial
opportunities.By far the largest passenger
ship ever designed,
America World City will be a
stirring revival of America’s
proud maritime heritage.
Revolutionary in design, and
meeting and surpassing the
highest environmental and
safety standards, America
World City uniquely challenges
the competitiveness of U.S.
industry, the ingenuity of U.S.technology, the productivity
of U.S. labor, and the
resourcefulness of U.S.
public policy, at all levels. The rewards are as great
as the challenges: over
15,000,000 work-hours by
hundreds of businesses and
thousands of Americans in all
fifty states; an American flag
on the world’s largest and most
advanced passenger ship;
thousands of self-sustaining,
long term jobs for Americans
on board ship and ashore;
billions in direct corporate and
payroll taxes; an estimated
$500 million annually in
economic benefits to the many
U.S. ports and coastalcommunities on the ship’s
coastwise itinerary; construction
contracts worth $500 million
for the State of Florida; $350
million for Mississippi and
other Gulf Coast states; $300
million for the State of Texas,
and $150 million in additional
components, systems and
supplies procured from virtually
every state in the union; and,
by capturing a share of the
$40 billion-a-year industry for
the American economy and
for American workers, we
begin to reverse the huge
multi-billion dollar drain created
by foreign dominance of an
essentially U.S. based and U.S.
driven industry. -
It is estimated that the moneys
expended annually by
Americans sailing on foreign-
flagged cruise ships sailing
out of U.S. ports — in the
billions and billions of dollars
— places the cruise industry
among the top ten contributors
to the nation’s record high
and growing trade deficit,
alongside countries such as
Japan, China, Mexico and
Germany. Annual cruise
industry revenues are larger
than those of the nation’s
entire motion picture box office
and the gate of America’s
four largest professional
sports, combined. As such,
the cruise industry represents
a solid business opportunity
for the American economy
which in no way undermines
the recognized benefits to
America of the existing
foreign-flag cruise industry.
Knut Utstein Kloster announces cooperation and technology exchange between U.S. and Norway. In sum, America World City
is a powerful, private-sector
developed, market-driven
economic engine for our
recovering economy and a
prototype stimulus project for
economic growth that does
not cost American taxpayers
anything — except vision,
determination and confidence
in themselves.Approximately $100 million
worth of marine systems,
components and technologies,
not available from U.S. sources,
will be imported from Norway
under a strategic maritime
technology-exchange program
between our two countries.
