America World City
  • Size is only one aspect of the
    city-ship’s revolutionary
    design. The most significant
    aspect relates to the positioning
    of guest accommodations in
    three hotel towers rising up in
    the sunlight and sea air from
    the main deck, slightly larger
    than that of an aircraft carrier,
    leaving hundreds of thousands
    of square feet available

    “downtown” (in the hull) for
    every imaginable resort and
    cultural amenity.

    The “city-at-sea” concept was
    conceived more than a decade
    ago by cruise industry pioneer
    Knut Utstein Kloster and his
    Oslo-based company, World City
    Corporation A/S. In developing
    the city-ship concept, Kloster
    partnered with New York
    admiralty attorney/entrepreneur

    John S. Rogers and the world-
    renown Danish Naval Architect
    Tage Wandborg. World City
    Corporation (NY) and World City
    America Inc. were formed.

    Over the intervening years and
    at a cost of over $60 million, the
    World City team completed the
    complex design, engineering,
    regulatory approvals and build
    methodology for America World
    City.

    affiliation with a major
    hospitality brand;

    flexibility in length of stay
    (from an overnight to as
    long as one wishes);

    U.S./closer-to-home
    itineraries (the ship is
    the destination — and like none other);

    the ability to check in and
    check out at will, as with
    any land-based hotel, resort,
    or conference center.

    This check in / check out
    flexibility is made possible by
    a marina in the stern of the
    vessel which is home port to
    four large day cruisers which
    shuttle guests to and from the
    Mother Ship and a variety of
    destinations within a 50 mile radius.
