America World City
  • In a 21st Century application
    of the multi-yard and
    modular construction concepts
    conceived by Henry Kaiser
to produce the famed fleet of
Liberty Ships in World War II,
    America World City will
be built in a shipyard as
innovative as the ship itself —
a virtual shipyard — that will
    draw on the skills, experience,
    technical resources, and
    facilities of multiple fabricators
    and shipyards, as well as
    the highly competitive hotel
    construction and offshore
    industries. World City’s “virtual
    shipyard” methodology

    capitalizes on the availability
of multiple sites and on the
    schedule advantages of
    parallel construction of hull
    and hotel modules.

    The hull modules and machin-
    ery sections of America
    World City
    are well within the
    technical capability of several
    U.S. commercial shipyards,
but the United States has not
    built a major passenger ship
    in over sixty years. Therefore,
    the complex hotel construction
    and highly detailed interior
    outfitting of the city-ship will
    be undertaken — to marine
    standards and specifications —

    Chief Architect Tage Wandborg
    demonstrates how the modules
of the ship’s hull and superstructure
    will be joined together.

  • by a leading hotel builder who
    has worked extensively with
    the United States Coast
    Guard and the American
    Bureau of Shipping to qualify
    for this marine-specific
    contract. Similarly, the
    complex assembly of hull
    modules will be undertaken by
    a leading offshore contractor,
    Kiewit Offshore Services,
    based in Corpus Christi, Texas.
    Utilizing this agile organiza-
    tional structure and new
    competitive alliance among

    marine, hotel and offshore
    constructors results in an
    internationally competitive
    price and schedule for the
    construction of America World
    City in the United States.

    World City retained a leading
    international insurance broker,
    Marsh Inc., to conduct an
    extensive review of this
    production plan. As a result
    of its review, Marsh offered
    World City a Financial
    Protection Program that
    guarantees that the ship will
be built on time and on budget.
